Tamara L. Slater (she/her), described by clients as “enthusiastic” and “thorough,” represents private and public sector employees in a range of employment disputes.  She is dedicated to engaging with her clients and ensuring that they understand the potential consequences of all actions taken during litigation.

Tamara represents individuals in civil rights cases in state and federal court, during administrative investigations before the EEOC, and in settlement negotiations.  Tamara’s practice focuses on litigating discrimination claims under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Equal Pay Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act, and the D.C. Human Rights Act.

Prior to joining Alan Lescht & Associates, P.C., Tamara worked as an Associate at another Washington, DC law firm, where she primarily handled cases involving employment discrimination and wrongful denials of disability and retirement benefits.  Before that, she was a Staff Attorney at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 8th Circuit, where she worked on a wide range of cases involving direct criminal appeals, civil rights actions, employment and housing discrimination, and Social Security benefit disputes.

During law school, she served as a legal extern at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and legal intern at the U.S. Department of Commerce.

Tamara is active in a number of community organizations and pro bono activities, and she is a member of the WorkLife Law Attorney Network.

I was assigned to Tamara, and from day one, she made a conscious attempt at understanding all the facts, and asking all the right questions. She kept me updated at every step of the way, and when time came, she calmly argued for me - which is exactly what anyone who has suffered a job loss would want - someone to speak up for you. She strikes the perfect balance between empathizing with your situation, while fighting for you. I highly recommend these folks - you'd be lucky to have them in your camp when things go wrong.

Tamara Slater, from the moment she was assigned to me, made herself available 24/7. She tirelessly worked to save my job and make sure that my rights as an employee were heard. I cannot say enough good things about the law firm she represents. Based upon my experience, words cannot express gratitude for her compassion and efficiency. It is good to have a lawyer who has a level head that, in a second, can calm you down. Thank you, Tamara, so very much for all that you have done for me. It is absolutely invaluable.
