US Department Of Labor Releases Trade Adjustment Assistance to States

The funds released by the US Department of Labor are intended to provide career training and management services for those employees that have been unemployed due to the outsourcing of their job overseas or due to issues stemming from foreign trade.

The total amount of assistance money to be divided amongst the states is $450 million.

Secretary of Labor Hilda L. Solis commented "Workers around the nation continue to see their jobs disappear as a direct result of increased imports and competitive trade, The funding announced today will help more of these workers upgrade existing skills or retrain for new careers in industries that have the potential to grow in the coming months and years."

The Recovery Act signed into law by President Barack Obama in 2009 increased the amount of Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) funding by $375 million dollars. Find out more about the Recovery Act here.
