District Of Columbia Unemployment Falls

Washington D.C., along with 17 states reported a falling unemployment rate in July of 2009. This is up from only 5 states seeing a decrease in June of 2009. During the same time period last year, all 50 states reported increases in the unemployment rate.

Although these decreases were modest, the numbers are an encouraging sign that the battered labor markets may be showing signs of a recovery. Overall, the national unemployment rate fell a modest .1 percent to 9.4.
